MASSIVE praise to God for once again being amazingly faithful!!

For the past few weeks I’ve been dealing with a “thud” in the car’s steering, accompanied by substantial give in the wheel and significant (read, sometimes scary) shaking when braking hard at high speeds. I reached out to the dealership (reluctantly) to just bite the bullet and schedule a service visit, only to be informed it would be 3 weeks before I could be seen. So after checking others’ experiences with the same issue, I came across information regarding the source of the issue and even video (not mad at you, YouTube) walking through the fix. Hair-raising work to be true, but seeing as how I’d have to live with the feeling of insecurity while driving, for three more weeks, I decided to try to fix it myself (with much hesitation and anxiety – after all, if I screwed up, the car would be undrivable with no steering 😬).

So before starting, I prayed and prayed that God would give me insight and intelligence and a hand in working through the fix; and as meticulously-nerve-wracking and contortion-intensive as the process was, He got me through it successfully and faithfully! There’s absolutely no way with all the bending, tens of parts and screws, improvisation with tools too long for tiny spaces, and less than ideal lighting that I could have accomplished that in my own power – not smart enough, bendy enough, glow-in-the-dark enough to pull off such a win. I’m hyped up beyond measure and it’s all because I serve a wonderful God and gracious Father!!

Thanks to Him, driving worries averted; dealership avoided; hundreds of dollars probably saved. To God be the absolute glory!! Thank You so very much!! 😄😄

A look at the challenge:

Mission: Completely dismantle the steering assembly; check. (Please don’t lose screws, please don’t lose screws…)
Why all the fuss? Because all of the insane shaking and thudding is the result of a *tiny* rubber/plastic coupler that has given up the ghost. Pictured: said old, disintegrated coupler –
So, old disintegrated coupler between two metal spinning fixtures yields grinding nonsense and more expensive, future problems
What a punished coupler looks like vs. what a normal coupler looks like… all $14 of it… (Seriously, it’s best not to think of what things hold a car together that’s moving at 80mph at any given time …)
4+ hours and some fast-exiting choice 4-letter words later, all my ridiculous damage has been reverted. And lo and behold, no more thudding, all functionality appears a-ok, and one more problem solved with a little elbow grease, faith, and commitment. 🙏🏽
And this is the face of a man that is fully aware he bit off a lot more than he could chew alone, and whose whole body aches from fitting a 6’1″ frame into a 3’x4′ crawl space …
